The first Monday in September is seen by some as just another day off. It is important to take the time to educate yourself of it’s true origins.

The creation of the labor movement from the Central Labor Union. On this day we pay tribute to our nation. Our strength, freedom, prosperity, and well-being are honored, as American Workers.

The first ever holiday was not celebrated on the first Monday in September. Instead on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. They finally moved the date two years later to the iconic date of first Monday in September.

Celebrating with family and friends with picnic has been a tradition since 1882. During the first Labor day, street parades and festivals arose to celebrate the achievements of the American worker. These celebrations are in the original proposal of what the Labor organizer wanted to see honored on this day.

Labor day did not become an official, legal holiday until the Congress passed an act declaring it the first Monday in September of each year, on June 28, 1894.
